The Opportunity: Director of Technical & Safety   

We’re looking for a seasoned, strategic, and solutions-driven leader to step into the role of our Director of Technical & safety a cornerstone position at Over The Edge. This isn’t just about overseeing rope and rigging; it’s about shaping the future of our North American operations, while ensuring our events continue to exceed expectations in professionalism, excitement, and safety. As the Director of Technical & Safety you’ll create and execute our global safety strategy, manage a talented team of technicians and site supervisors, and ensure that every rappel, from a multi-day fundraiser to a one-day Altitude Zone experience, runs flawlessly and safely. You’ll also bring an entrepreneurial lens to operations, identifying smart, scalable ways to improve safety, reduce costs, and support the company’s expansion into new markets, service offerings, and permanent rappel locations. What You’ll Do 

• Manage & Inspire: Supervise, support, train, and grow a high-performing team of  rope access professionals across North America. 

• Set the Standard: Develop, maintain, and enforce OTE’s safety and rigging standards, ensuring alignment with best practices from SPRAT/IRATA, OSHA, and other regulators.
  Own the creation and continual improvement of technical policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training protocols, building systems that not only keep people safe but scale effectively as our business grows. 

• Event Oversight: Oversee
  the technical planning and onsite execution of rappel events, including permitting, inspections, site setup, and risk assessments. 

• Investigate & Improve: Conduct incident reviews, safety audits, and equipment evaluations, constantly evolving our systems for better outcomes. 

• Collaborate Across Teams: Work hand-in-hand with Event Operations, Sales and Marketing, and Leadership to ensure smooth and successful events. 

• Drive Innovation: Bring fresh thinking to technical challenges, gear strategy, and site development, supporting
  business
  development into new markets and permanent zones 

• Drive Training & Development: Lead the design and delivery of training programs that elevate technical skills, reinforce safety standards, and build operational and business awareness across the team. 

• Apply Business and Financial Expertise: Apply strong business and financial insight
  to make informed decisions around resourcing, vendor relationships, and operational strategy, always balancing safety with efficiency and long-term growth. 

What You Bring 

• Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in a senior rope access, rescue, or technical safety leadership role. 

• Certifications: SPRAT Level 2 or 3 (or IRATA equivalent). Instructor or evaluator experience is also a strong asset. 

• Business-Driven Decision Making: With a sharp eye on both safety and sustainability, you bring entrepreneurial thinking and financial acumen to the table, making smart decisions that align operational execution with long-term business goals. You're proactive in forecasting needs, mitigating risks, and supporting scalable growth. 

• Leadership: Proven track record of building high-performing teams, driving accountability, and leading with clarity and confidence under pressure, paired with exceptional communication and sound decision-making skills. 

• Technical Confidence: Deep knowledge of rigging systems, safety standards, and high-angle operations 

• Adaptability: Thrive in a dynamic environment, with the ability to balance structure and creativity. 

• Travel: Willingness to travel ~30% of the time for site visits and event leadership.
