Summary

This position is responsible for assembling rigging to lift and move equipment or material.

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:   

  • Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material.
  • Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, to crane hook.
  • Understand the regulatory requirements concerning proper sling selection, use and inspection.
  • Understand the effect of load angle on sling selection and capacity.
  • Able to determine that all slings and rigging components are of sufficient capacity to safely perform the lift.
  • Ability to control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.
  • Store and maintain rigging equipment.
  • Understand the standard hand signals for controlling crane operations.
  • Knowledge and use of verbal communication to able to direct the operator.
  • Understand the proper application of tag lines and their importance in safe lifting operations.
  • Recognize the load’s center of gravity and the importance of load balance.
  • Knowledge of jack/roll procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Play an active role in the development of the safety culture, making safety a natural part of all work performed.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify and report safety concerns.
  • Perform assigned duties in a safe manner.

Reports to

This position reports directly to the Operations Manager or Rigging Foreman.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of rigging and sling construction.
  • Basic knowledge of crane operation.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Confidence in working closely with co-workers.
  • Excellent organization, follow-through, and execution skills.
  • High level of accountability, discipline, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of and with a team.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Must have positive attitude and excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have a CDL
