Indoor Climbing Crag Team Leader & Climbing Instructor - ÜG Denver (Full Time)

Join Übergrippen Indoor Climbing Crag as a full time hourly team member (36-40 hours per week). Übergrippen is an indoor rock climbing facility with locations in the Colorado Front Range (NE Denver and Castle Rock). Share your love of climbing by joining our team!  This position will be 100% at Übergrippen Denver (located in the Central Park Neighborhood in NE Denver)

The Team Leader position is for people who are excited about rock climbing and have a strong desire and ability to lead a team!

Job Duties

  • "The World Stops": Make positive customer engagement your #1  goal daily
  • Supervising guest activities and provide incident/emergency response if ever needed.
  • Providing facility orientations and certifications to new guests (including belay and lead climbing tests)
  • Continually engaging with customers throughout the shift to create an awesome and connected community
  • Front desk work (guest check-in, membership and day pass sales, answering questions by phone, email, and face to face)
  • Working with customers in our retail shop (providing gear recommendations, sizing support, and answering questions on products)
  • Teaching climbing classes for both adults and youth
  • Facility and equipment cleaning and maintenance
  • Leading a team: training, directing, and mentoring staff to do all the above roles

Job requirements

  1. High school graduate (or equivalent).
  2. 18 years or older.
  3. Previous climbing experience (5+ years preferred) and ability to pass a top rope belay certification and lead climbing certification.
  4. Previous customer service work/experience (3+ years preferred).
  5. Ability to climb at a 5.9 or higher level.
  6. Ability to stand for duration of shifts (4 hours minimum).
  7. Ability to wear a climbing harness and perform top rope belay for others for 2 hours without a break.
  8. Applicants must have weekday evening (4pm to 10:30pm) and weekend availability (8am to 8pm). Team Leader roles have primarily (80%) night and evening hours; day shifts are provided to staff with other programming and leadership roles.
  9. Ability to walk up and down stairs and over soft/uneven surfaces (e.g. soft padded bouldering flooring) while providing assistance to others.
  10. Ability to clearly communicate with customers in person, on the phone, and via electronic messaging (e.g. e-mail).
  11. Ability to use a personal computer using standard input devices (mouse/keyboard)
  12. Ability to lead groups (6 or more people) including providing clear verbal instructions, group management, and conflict resolution.
  13. Ability to lift and move boxes up to 30 lbs without assistance from others.
  14. CPR/First Aid Certification (American Red Cross certifications are offered semi-annually)
  15. Climbing Wall Association (CWA) Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Certification (certification courses are offered semi-annually)
  16. Must pass a criminal background check.

Compensation

  • Starting compensation $19-22/hr depending on experience
