Job Summary
Minimum pay is $19.44/hr; additional compensation will be considered for candidates with higher amounts of experience above the minimum requirements.
The Arborist I plays a crucial role in supporting all aspects of tree maintenance in the Biltmore Estate. This position involves assisting with various tasks related to tree care under the direction of the Manager and Crew Leader. This position handles lowering and rigging lines, operates chainsaws and utilizes other equipmnet as directed. Maintaining a commitment to excellence in workmanship is essential, as the Arborist I serves as representative of the Biltmore Company and must uphold a professional image while providing general support and assistance to the department, leadership, and company as a whole.
Essential Job Duties
1. Operates hand tools, chainsaws, tractors, loaders, grapples, winches, chippers, stump cutters, skid steers, and other arborists vehicles and equipment as directed in a safe and responsible manner.
2. Performs worksite set up and traffic control
3. Maintains and keeps track of tools and equipment, ensuring that all equipment and keys are properly stored and secured at day's end.
4. Assists in preparing equipmnet and materials needed for the day's work as directed by the crew leader and/or manager
5. Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, uncluttered, and safe work environment.
6. Ability to perform and assist with an aerial rescue
7. May operate aerial lift as directed
8. Available for nights, weekends, and holiday's as determined by Arborist Manager
Qualifications
1. High School diploma or GED required. Additional education, training, and/or certifications strongly perfered
2. A minimum of two (2) years of arboriculture or related experience.
3. Must have basic tree identification skills
4. Proficiency in tree removal with ropes, knots, and rigging
5. Ability to use a chain saw, chipper, skid steer, loader, aerial lift and other equipment
6. Familiarity with ANSI Z133 and A300 standards
7. Must be at least 21 years old
Required Certifications (if any):
8. CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to get certification within 2 months
9. NC Commercial Driver License Class A or B (or obtain in 6 months)
Physical Requirments
1. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time; must be able to kneel, stoop, bend, reach below and overhead
2. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
3. Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding as needed.
4. Ability to safely operate small equipment and machinery (e.g. edgers, mowers, etc.)
5. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather with fluctuations in temperature and conditions.
