Description
The API Inspector is responsible for performing inspections of pressure-retaining equipment in accordance with applicable API and ASME standards. Working under the direction of the client, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and reliability of equipment through detailed examinations and technical reporting.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform visual and non-destructive examinations (NDE) on static and dynamic pressure-retaining equipment in accordance with API 510, 570, and 653 standards, as well as ASME codes.

Accurately assess equipment condition and submit detailed inspection reports to the client.

Provide technical recommendations regarding the repair, re-rating, replacement, or alteration of plant equipment to ensure safe operation within defined parameters.

Offer expert input on welding and metallurgical issues as required.

Advise the client on the application and selection of non-destructive examination techniques and procedures.

Ensure full compliance with XCEL NDT and client safety protocols, and actively participate in site safety initiatives.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
-
One or more current API certifications required – API 510, 570, or 653
-
CR/DR in Weld Quality required
-
Ropes Course certification required
-
Phased Array certification preferred
-
Strong understanding of inspection codes, standards, and best practices
-
Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods is a plus

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, and P&IDs
-
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards

Excellent communication and documentation skills
Physical Demands and Work Conditions:

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fingering, and feeling

Regular talking, hearing, visual acuity, color vision, and ability to adjust focus (accommodation)

Ability to move, carry, and lift objects in excess of 50 lbs

Climbing and working from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding at heights exceeding 100 ft

Ability to work extended hours and remain on foot for long periods

Work may be performed in indoor and outdoor environments under conditions of extreme heat or cold

Must be able to work in and around industrial hazards, including noise, heavy equipment, and confined spaces
