Horticulture Maintenance 2 – Arborist
Position Focus
The Horticulture Maintenance 2 - Arborist plays a vital role in caring for and maintaining our beautiful trees and other woody plants across all District-owned properties. This position typically follows a Monday through Friday schedule, with 40 hours each week, and the specific work hours are set by the Superintendent of Parks. Occasionally, evening and/or weekend hours may be necessary, and this position also requires being on call whenever needed to ensure our green spaces thrive!
Education, Experience and Training
- Knowledgeable in the areas of forestry and general landscape maintenance procedures
- High school graduate or general education degree required
- Five (5) years in the landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction fields or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training required
- Formal or trade school studies related to arboriculture maintenance practices desired
- Valid State of Illinois driver's license required
- Certification through the International Society of Arborists (ISA), Illinois Pesticide License, CDL Class B, CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within twelve months of employment
Duties and Lines of Responsibility
• Formal or trade school studies related to arboriculture maintenance practices are desired
• Assist with the management of contractual work that pertains to the scope of the position
• Manage and train arborist team staff
• Identify safety hazards, insects, pests and diseases within trees and woody plant material
• Operation of chainsaws, woodchippers and bucket trucks (rigging equipment)
• Assist with snow removal operations and ice rink maintenance
• Other duties assigned may include, but are not limited to:
- General Park landscape maintenance, landscape bed weed control, grading and irrigation equipment

The hiring pay range for this position is $25.96 - $36.35/hour.
